AES’s manual SDI kit is used to indicate the quantity of particulate contamination in relatively low-turbidity water supplies or waste streams. The test is based on the ASTM Method 4189-95 that is one of the accepted standards industry-wide to estimate the rate at which colloidal and particle fouling will occur in water purification systems.
The SDI test measures the deterioration over time in flow rate through a 47 mm diameter, 0.45 µm pore size membrane that is more susceptible to plugging from colloidal matter than from hard particles such as sand or scale. This deterioration in flow is converted to a number from 1 to 100. The lower the silt density index number is, the lower the fouling tendency of the water. It is recommended to have a silt density index of 5 or less in the 15 minute test.
The presented AES’s manual SDI kit is economical and simple to use. It includes:
- Pressure Regulator
- Pressure Gauge
- Sample Valve
- In-Line Filter Holder
- 47mm Filter Membrane, 45 Micron (For 20 Tests)
- 1 Graduated Cylinder
- Tubing & Fittings
